Computer Programming for Kids

HiTec Education Centre is delighted to announce that they will now be providing Scratch Computer Programming classes for kids.

Scratch teaches computational thinking and problem solving using a simple-to-use, yet powerful, building block approach to software development.  It was developed at MIT specifically and is aimed at teaching older primary school children (age 8 – 12) the principles of programming.

HiTec’s instructor Steve Holmes gets great satisfaction from teaching computer science and bringing Maths to life for primary and secondary school students.  He draws from his 20 + years experience of scientific programming to create fun lessons which demonstrates these concepts in ordinary everyday terms.  His class won the National Scratch Competition in 2011.

Scratch computer programming classes for kids will start in September (date to be confirmed) 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The course will run for 10 weeks and on completion students will receive a certificate from the Irish Computer Society.  They will possess the skills necessary to create their own games/animations and they will have a better understanding of various elements of Mathematics.  The cost of this course is €150.
