E-Citizens/Pre ECDL This module is designed to help students to develop their use of the computer and as a Pre-ECDL course. Subjects covered include MS Word, Excel, Filing Systems and Internet & Email Knowledge.
Students will set up and save documents, use files and folders and find 'lost' files. They will also search for information on the Internet whilst learning about security and the necessary precautions that should be taken to stay safe online. Students will become familiar with online services such as Internet banking and booking flights/holidays etc online.
Course Content You will learn everything you need to know to be able to use your computer and the Internet confidently.
By the time you complete the e-Citizen programme, you will be able to use e-government services and online banking and search for information from a variety of sources.
You will be able to buy products and services online and communicate online with family and friends.
This course is divided into three sections:
Block 1- Foundation SkillsThe Foundation Skills block gives the candidate the necessary skills and knowledge for basic computer and Internet use. You will cover the following
- The Computer
- Files and Folders
- Simple Applications
- Internet Basics
- Email Basics
Block 2 - Information Search The Information Search block makes the candidate aware of the nature and extent of information available on the Internet in the areas of news, government, consumer, travel, education/training, employment, health, interest groups, and business. This block covers:
- Searching - a wide range of Internet sources
- Precautions - issues and risks
- Reliability of Information
Block 3 - e-Participation Building on the computer and search skills already acquired, this block completes the skills necessary for the candidate to become an e-Citizen. This block covers:
- Online Services
- Practical Applications
CertificationOn completion of this course, you will be required to take a single online test to demonstrate the skills you have learned and practised during the course. An e-Citizen Certificate will then be awarded to the successful candidates. e-Citizen is an international qualification developed by the ECDL Foundation and awarded by ICS Skills in Ireland.
